Deception of the Heart

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9

There is this poem that I stumbled upon, that seems to explain quite well things I constantly deal with when I enter into relationships. All of a sudden the heart becomes blind, and you do not realize the trouble you are in and the stress and anguish it has caused; until it subsides. The following poem is worth reading to remind yourself to keep a head on your shoulders despite the luring of dumb loves pull. I can say I can testify by many experiences; many too many; that I wish this poem would have been more prevalent in my childhood instead of stories of unrealistic romances. Besides the point, I enjoy this poem, except I do not agree with the last sentence because God did give all his heart, and though we failed Him, Jesus has redeemed us and God never loses. :)

Never give all the heart, for love
Will hardly seem worth thinking of
To passionate women if it seem
Certain, and they never dream
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy, kind delight.
O never give the heart outright,
For they, for all smooth lips can say,
Have given their hearts up to the play.
And who could play it well enough
If deaf and dumb and blind with love?
He that made this knows all the cost,
For he gave all his heart and lost.

Thoughts of today

What is life? Is it not just a fleeting moment? Yet we hold so many things so tightly as it is something that will mean forever. Why are our selfish desires constantly conflicting with so many things? Sometimes I take a step back and look at situations and wonder why is this such a big issue, and then I realize something. I realize that it's not as big as I think it is, but it's my own desires or other's own desires that make the issue so big.
This morning I heard on the radio much talk about hospitality. How important it is to be hospitable to others and to open our homes to them. The example of the couple in the Bible that opened their home to the prophet Elijah and his servant was used- when they had built a spare room for him to stay with them when he traveled through the area. Also, I heard another sermon about being humble about the things that we possess and not to exalt ourselves or our material goods. If we have money, we should use it to better the kingdom of God, and likewise, if we don't have money, the same. Eternal treasures in heaven are more important than the temporal things of the earth.

I enjoyed listening to the sermons; and I am always taken a back at the things I seem to forget and re-learn. Tomorrow is supposed to be the church camping church, however, there are some complications so I'm not sure if I'll be able to go. Still, I have to trust that there is a good purpose in everything to those that love God. :) And I do believe that.
